At Camping Zeeburg we do not only talk about sustainability. We simply do it.
We believe small actions can make a big difference, especially when you repeat them every day. On and around the camping we work with people and organisations who also want a greener and more social Amsterdam.
Nature in the city
Our camping is surrounded by nature. We protect and strengthen this nature with practical solutions. We work with local knowledge institutes and partners on research about biodiversity, floating islands and the ecological green corridor. We plant native plants, maintain the reed banks and create safe places for animals like hedgehogs, weasels and stone martens. Oystercatchers nest on our roofs and bats live in boxes in the trees. We also built snake piles and a kingfisher wall. This keeps the island lively and full of biodiversity.
We use solar panels and solar collectors for warm water and electricity. With a voltsaver we limit energy use. All cleaning products are biodegradable. Showers and taps have water saving systems.
Stronger together
Sustainability is not only about nature. It is also about people. We offer work places and short internships for young people through social organisations and schools. Local school classes visit the camping every year for tours about nature and sustainability. We also work with social entrepreneurs and local initiatives that get a fair place here.
Some guests may not notice it directly, but by staying here you also support social projects. We make free camping places possible for young people and organisations through youth and support initiatives.
We also help with local activities that connect people. For example the Freedom Meal, where we give out free soup every year.
Connected to the neighbourhood
We feel part of Amsterdam and like to give something back to the city. We support organisations that help create a social and lively neighbourhood. From local resident initiatives to care and nature organisations. We also support local sports clubs and youth groups and offer discounts or sponsorship for local events and cultural initiatives.
Culture belongs to Camping Zeeburg. That is why we organise concerts and cultural activities with artists and makers from Amsterdam and beyond. We work with cultural and educational partners for special evenings, like stargazing. We also join city programmes that connect the neighbourhood. And we support projects that strengthen independent cultural makers.
Camping Zeeburg is more than a place to camp. It is a small green community where people, culture and nature support each other. Everyone who stays here becomes part of that.
